Digest-Aid (Bao He Wan) is a traditional Chinese formula often used when digestion feels temporarily burdened after overeating or heavy, rich food. For Art of Nourishment students, it fits best as a short-term “reset” support for bloating, indigestion, and that unmistakable feeling of food sitting too heavily, while personalized guidance still matters for safety and best fit.
If a meal leaves you feeling uncomfortably full, bloated, or “stuck,” Digest-Aid—Bao He Wan—may be a lovely formula to explore. In traditional Chinese medicine, Bao He Wan is a classic for the early stage of food stagnation. Its traditional function is to reduce food stagnation, move Qi downward, drain a little Dampness, and harmonize the Stomach. Common ingredients include shan zha (hawthorn), shen qu, lai fu zi, chen pi, ban xia, fu ling, lian qiao, and often mai ya.
For students in The Art of Nourishment, this is the formula to think about when overeating, rich food, bloating, sour belching, indigestion, or poor appetite after feeling overfull are the main picture. It is usually sold as capsules consisting of 3 capsules twice daily, before breakfast and dinner, and it is best to follow the product label or your practitioner’s advice.
A simple way to try it is to pair it with the course basics: smaller meals, warm simple food, and a pause on rich or greasy leftovers. Avoid it in pregnancy, and seek practitioner advice if you are breastfeeding, taking prescription medicines, have a significant medical condition, or symptoms persist or worsen.
