Emotional Nourishment and the Inner Landscapes

How does the Spleen influence emotions and the inner emotional landscape?

đź’› Emotional Nourishment and the Inner Landscape

At the emotional level, the Spleen governs our capacity to receive and give nourishment—both physically and emotionally. When this function is balanced, we feel supported, secure, and at ease.

However, it is common to confuse emotional needs with physical hunger. Food may be used to comfort, suppress, or distract from deeper feelings. From the earliest experience of feeding at mother’s breast, nourishment and comfort become intertwined.

As we mature, we gradually internalise this source of nourishment, developing what might be described as an “inner mother”—a stable, internal capacity for support. This internalisation is another expression of Spleen function.

Our early experiences of care and nourishment play a significant role in shaping this capacity. A deep sense of deserving nourishment, and trust in its availability, are foundational to a strong and balanced Spleen.
